Gionee Elife E7 Mini Octacore - Hands on

The Chinese brand Gionee has released some spectacular phones with superb features in Asian market. These mobiles come with some extraordinary features that come at a handy price. The Gionee Elife E7 Mini is one the latest mobile launched in Asian and Indian market. This mobile has some peculiar features like IGZO display and 180 degrees rotating camera.

The Gionee Elife E7 mini comes with a 4.7 inches  IGZO display with a resolution of 720 X 1280 pixels at 312 ppi. The Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide (IGZO) display is one of the attractive feature of this mobile. Some of them claim that this display is sharper and better than the available IPS/LCD/AMOLED screens. I don't know how far they are better but there are few positive aspects of the IGZO display. The power consumption is very low when compared to other screens. Low light performance is also a positive asset of this screen. The screen resolution is also high with excellent viewing angles and stunning reproduction of colors. This is what is true in case of this mobile. The viewing angles are very good, the color reproduction is superb and watching HD videos is a treat to your eyes.

The Gionee Elife E7 mini comes with a Mediatek MT6592 Octa Core processor cloaked at speed of 1.7 GHz. This is similar to it's predecessor Gionee Elife S5.5 but the difference comes in RAM. The S5.5 is supported by 2 Gigs of RAM while E7 mini is assisted by 1 Gig of RAM. Pretty subtle when it is called as a "mini". The Mediatek Octa Core processor is not that speed when compared to Snapdragon quad core or a Krait. But there is enough power under the hood to handle the applications and multitasking with ease.

The camera part is where the uniqueness of this phone comes into play. The camera is a 13 MP shooter and is lodged into a hinge like rotatable head which rotates 180 degrees. This makes you can use this camera as front or main rear camera by rotating. So the 13 MP shooter will be used as a front camera too with which you can shoot HD videos and take better pictures of yourself at a better quality and resolution.

The camera features are same as its predecessors like HD video shoot, panorama mode, burst mode, red eye reduction and many more. The camera takes pretty decent pictures and it will not over saturate the colors f the images taken. The images are crisp and clear. There was little noise when images are taken in low light but the IGZO screen will do it's best to make the images appear better and clear.

The mobile has the physical buttons i.e, power and volume rocker buttons on right side while the ear phone jack is placed at the bottom along with micro usb charging port and microphone. The ear phone jack position is some what awkward and music lovers may not like this. There are no buttons or slots on the top of the phone. The sim card tray is on left side.

The Gionee Elife E7 runs on Android 4.2.2 JellyBean over the customized Amigo User Interface V2.1. The Amigo UI is little sluggish and slows down the system especially when you scroll between screens. The phone dial is stockish without the option for video calling directly. The keyboard is pretty good and very easy to type. But the continuous input in keyboard is not supported.

The battery of the Gionee Elife E7 is 2200 mAh and is not removable. The mobile comes with a 16 GB internal storage and there is no expandable memory option which is a shame. The mobile is plastic build with matte like finish on the back. It is about 8.6 mm thick which makes it comfortable to hold in one hand, but the design is not much premium.

Early Verdict:
The Gionee Elife E7 is a medium ranged mobile with some pretty decent features and peculiar features too. The rotating camera grabs the attention of users who are seeking something "new". The mobile comes with OTA (Over The Air) feature with which you can update your mobile without connecting to PC. The mobile offers few promising performances but can have a very tough competition from medium ranged mobiles in India like Micromax. Well, will this mobile survives the competition?
