Lenovo Vibe Shot: First Impressions

Lenovo provided many good mid ranged phones at a reasonable price. The Lenovo Idea phone being the first super phone from lenovo they pushed it further with some decent hardware Lenovo Vibe Z ( Review Here). Lenovo always focused on providing decent specs which can compete with top end phones at a reasonable price. Now Lenovo Vibe Shot is another mobile in this category. In this phone we will get pretty decent hardware and a good camera as well which was the achilles heel for many other mid ranged mobile manufacturers.

Design:

Lenovo Vibe Shot looks no less than a premium built mobile with a metal body with glass coating which is similar to Sony Xperia Z devices. At the first glance you will see a 5 inches display with three capacitive touch buttons at the bottom which are back lit. The metal rim around the edges adds more premium feel to the mobile.

The back side of the mobile is eye catchy.  The metal strip that extends over the back gives a decent look to the mobile. On this strip the 16 MP shooter is lodged at the top left and the name of the mobile at the bottom. The placement of camera is somewhat dodgy when compared to most of the android mobiles which have it in the center. It is like iPhone inspired placement of camera. The right side of the phone contains the camera toggle button with which you can switch between pro and smart camera apps. It also has camera click physical button beside the camera toggle button. The back side of the phone is glass coated and is a massive finger print magnet.

The power button, volume rocker button and micro sd card slots are lodged on the rite side of the phone. The 3.5 mm ear phone jack is at the top. Micro USB cable slot is at the bottom in middle along with dual speakers on either side of it. The back cover is non removable and hence there is no chance to change battery.

Lenovo vibe shot is 7.3 mm thick and weighs 145 grams. It is easy to operate single handedly.

Specs and Features:

Lenovo vibe shot comes with pretty decent hardware. It is powered with Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 Soc.  This octa core processor is composed of  Quad core 1.7 GHz - A53 and Quad core 1 GHz - A53 chips. This is accompanied by 3 GB RAM. With this processing power the mobile has enough juice under the hood to handle applications very smoothly. Well I didn't noticed any glitches while switching between apps and screens. But there was some heating problem during charging and heavy gaming. I guess the credit goes to the conductivity of the metal design.

The 5 inch screen is a IPS LCD screen which is scratch resistant  (Corning Gorilla glass 3). The resolution is 1020 X1920 at 441 pixels per inch which makes it one of the vibrant display's available, but not as bright as Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. However the viewing angles are bright and viewing under sunlight is also decent, thanks to 16 million color reproduction display.

The main camera app is one of the best features in this phone. It is a 16 mega pixel shooter with optical image stabilization. The camera has infra red auto focus along with triple LED color falsh.

The infra red auto focus will focus 2X times faster than normal focus. Along with this the camera has two different toggles with which you will be able to switch between smart camera and pro camera. Smart camera will adjust the auto focus and other balances automatically based on the light and distance of the object. The low light performance of the camera was excellent but I've noticed some noice as well. Front camera is an 8 MP shooter and can take videos in full HD.

The battery capacity is 2900 mAh and will last for one day on moderate usage. Sadly the battery cover is non removable and you cannot replace battery.

The phone comes with an internal memory of 32 GB and there is a memory card slot with which you can expand memory upto 128 GB. The mobile has two slots for two nano sims. The call quality was excellent accompanied by noise filtration.

Early Verdict:

Lenovo Vibe Shot provides some promising features which will excel in mid ranged mobiles and can also compete with some high end devices. I really loved the design and the camera features. The mobile was absolutely premium built. It is available for a price around Rs. 22,000 (INR). Stay tuned for full review.
