Protests in China in response to Microsoft's withdrawal of support to XP users
Microsoft withdrew its support for XP. After 12 years, Microsoft stated that it is putting an end for updates and security patches for XP users. This makes XP users wide open to virus threats and many security issues. About 200 million users alone in China are using this old operating system.
"Microsoft has stopped its support very irresponsibly" - Stated by one of the Chinese officials. They are even protesting this on a huge scale so as to make Microsoft continue it's support.
Since there is huge market in China for XP users, these existing users are at a threat of virus attacks and security issues. According to the report, since the XP operating is system is quite cheaper and easier to use than the newer versions of Windows, users are still relying on XP only. But the Microsoft's halt has left them in anger.
Some of the Chinese Laptop/PC manufacturers (Lenovo) have come forward to extend their support for XP users. In response to this huge protest Microsoft stated officially to extend support for XP users. They will release security updates.
This is a little relief for XP users. But how long will they continue this support? Should wait and see
