Oppo R5: Sneak Peak

The Chinese manufacturers proved themselves that they can give a tough fight to the leading brands with their immensely powerful mobiles at a cheaper price. Mobiles like Xiaomi, Gionee and Oppo have stunned the world by offering high end features at a lower price. The one good thing I personally like is that these mobiles are released globally at once, so that everyone can get their hands on.

Oppo has carved its mark in Android market with some decent mobiles like Oppo find, Oppo mini and many more which had specs and features. Oppo R5 is the latest release by the Chinese manufacturer and it claims to be the thinnest mobile till date. Lets have a quick look.

Oppo R5 is amazingly slim with just 4.85 mm thickness making it slimmer than iPhone 6. It has a large screen of 5.2 inches which is a Super AMOLED screen with Corning Gorilla glass. This means that the screen should look absolutely bright and scratch resistant. The Oppo R5's screen is a full HD screen with 1920 X 1080 pixel resolution at 424 pixels per inch, making it one of the vibrant display.  But the manufacturers haven't revealed that whether the mobile is water proof. Even though the mobile is so slim the camera lens which is situated at top left corner at the back protrudes out very little and they claim to be scratch proof. The rear camera is a 13 MP shooter and you can record videos in 4K. The camera uses the Sony Exmor sensor which has features like Ultra HD, Face detection, Beautify, HDR and many other decent modes. But we are not sure that the camera has optical image stabilization.

The mobile is supported with Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 soc which is an octacore version. It has four 1.5 GHz cores and another four cores fired up to 1 GHz. The processor is supported by 2 GB RAM which is somewhat less when many quad core mobiles are coming up with 3 gigs of RAM. Internal memory is 16 GB and there is no expandable memory card slot which is a shame. Perhaps they are trying to compete with iPhone in terms of memory and design.

One thing that saddened me utterly is the battery. It has just 2000 mAh battery that is quite less in relation to the processing speed. This is why, may be, the company is inserted VOOC rapid charge technology. With this the battery charges upto 75% within 30 minutes.

The phone runs on latest android OS, KitKat 4.4 over the Oppo's customized UI - ColorOS 2. The mobile also supports accessories like O - Music bluetooth accessory with which we can take pictures or listen to music with a single touch. It also has USB to earphone adapter.

Oppo R5 offers some interesting features in software as well as in terms of hardware. Will does it make it's impact in the android world. Hope so.
