Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime: Rewview
Xiaomi is known for its smartphones with heavy hardware and low price. It is one of the major competitor in smartphone battle in terms of price as well as features they provide. Many smartphones from the Chinese manufacturing company gave tough competition to other high end mobile firms like Samsung, LG, Motorola, Sony etc. The distinctive feature of the Xiaomi phones is the price for which they are released and the hardware they provide. Last year when they released Xiaomi Mi4, it was a huge success to the company and it was a big rival to S5, LG G3 and Sony Xperia Z3 which had almost similar features. Now with the release of Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime the company had made another huge impact on the budget smartphones, especially in Indian market. So let us look through the features of Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime.
Design:
The Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime comes with a uni-body design which looks very much premium when compared to other budget android phones. The screen is a 5 inch display which is IPS LCD display without any Gorilla glass protection. The phone has 3.5 mm audio jack on the top along with IR blaster and secondary noise cancellation microphone. The IR blaster addon is good touch for a budget ranged smartphone. The power and volume rocker buttons or on the right side. The back side of the phone has the 13 megapixel main camera with single LED flash. The fingerprint sensor is also located on the back side. Secondary camera is a 5 megapixel shooter.
The left side of the phone has the hybrid sim card slot in which one slot can be used as either secondary sim or a micro sd card. bottom end has the micro USB charging and data syncing port along with the primary microphone. Surprisingly they didn't opted for a USB Type C charging port.
Overall Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime looks very decent for its price range and the size of the phone is neither too large nor too small. It can be used with single hand without much difficulty. The phone is 8.5 mm thick weighing around 144 grams.
Specs, Features and Performance:
Let us start with the display of the phone. The phone has 5 inch display with a resolution of 720 X 1280 pixels at the rate of 294 pixels per inch. This makes a little hindrance under direct sunlight visibility but the phone as excellent viewing angles in indoors and accurate color reproduction.
The sensors include the Fingerprint Sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor and Infrared Sensor. The bottom of the display has the capacitive touch keys but sadly they are not back lit.
The phone comes with a 1.4 GHz, Octa Core, Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 430 Soc and 3 GB of RAM. It comes with Android Marshmallow out of the box with MiUi 7.5 user interface. The phone performed excellently well under heavy multi tasking, browsing and game. But I've noticed a little glitches when playing some heavy games, other than that the performance in day to day life will be buttery smooth. There was no heating issue while using the phone for a long time or watching videos or during charging. There was a little heating issue while using the camera app but that does not pose any threat to normal usage which you can ignore.
The sound from the loud speaker was OK and I say it is not too loud but clearly audible. The phone also ha infrared blaster which worked pretty good with other electronics. Calling quality was excellent without any disturbances as the noise cancellation mic worked decently. Xiaomi Redmi 3S prime supports all LTE bands in India along with Voice over LTE (VoLTE). Note that when you use dual sim, the primary sim supports 4G while the secondary sim supports 3G only.
The main camera is 13 megapixel shooter with F/2.0 Aperture Phase Detection Auto-Focus, 12 Real-time Filters, Manual Mode and 5-piece Lens. The pictures taken by the main camera are excellent with almost accurate color reproductions but the images tend to be on cooler side. The phone struggled to take good pictures in low light conditions and had little noise as well. The camera can record 1080p videos. The auto focus of the camera struggled a little.
The secondary camera is a 5 megapixel camera which can also record videos in Full HD. It has F/2.2 aperture with 36 smart beautify modes with which you can enhance images. Overall the selfies were very decent with the secondary camera and video calling was also good.
The battery capacity if Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime is 4100 mAh which is excellent. The phone lasted for one and a half day on a full single charge with regular usage. The phone also supports quick charging which is a good asset for a budget ranged phone.
Verdict:
Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime is priced at Rs. 8,999 INR. This phone brings decent features and can be one of the best budget android smartphone under Rs. 10,000 INR. If you are looking for other alternatives you can check Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus which also has the same price range but has better display, better processor, slim and light weight.
