Gionee A1: Specs and Features

Gionee, famous for offering decent mobiles at a budget price announced it's another mid ranged budget phone Gionee A1. This phone no different than many other mobiles available in terms of build quality and design. Still this phone has it's own merits which can differentiate it from other mobiles.

DESIGN

Gionee A1 has good Unibody metal design which lodges a 5.5 inches display. The back side of the phone has Gionee branding in the middle, 13 megapixel main camera with dual LED flash and the antenna band running at the bottom third end.

The physical home button is clickable button and also has the finger print sensor. The power and volume buttons are on right side while the left side has the dual card sim tray. The bottom of the phone has a regular micro usb charging slot and dual speaker grills. The dual speaker grills are just design purpose to lodge the microphone in one grill and the other one is speaker grill. Don't get fooled that it has stereo speakers. The 3.5 mm jack is on the top end of the phone. The front camera is a 16 megapixel shooter which has single LED flash.

The phone is little bulky with 8.3 mm thick and weighing 182 grams. This is due to the large 4010 mAh battery.

DISPLAY

Gionee A1 has a 5.5 inch full HD (1080) AMOLED display with 401 pixels per inch. The display has good viewing angles and vibrant colour reproduction but it tends to over saturate the colours. The direct sunlight viewing is good but you can see that bright colours are overly saturated and lack sharpness. Rest of that it is good phone for multimedia and gaming for such a big screen.

HARDWARE

Gionee A1 is powered by Mediatek MT6755 2 GHz Helio P10 processor accompanied by 4 GB of RAM. The processor comprises of 8 A53 cortex cores which are good theoretically. The day to day tasks are pretty smooth but there was little lag and heating issues when put under heavy graphic gaming.

It comes with expandable memory card slot but sadly with a hybrid sim card slot which means you can use second sim card slot as a memory card slot. Am not a big fan of hybrid sim card slots. There is no USB Type C either.

The large battery (4010 mAh) which will provide enough juice for one day under moderate to heavy use.

CAMERA

This phone is a selfie oriented phone which has a 16 megapixel front camera with LED flash.  It has F/2.0 aperture and 1.3" sensor size. The front camera takes excellent selfies with good colour reproduction and great detail. This can be a good competitor to the recently released selfie phones Oppo F3 and F3 Plus.

The rear camera is a 13 megapixel shooter with same aperture and sensor size as the front camera. Both the camera do a good job in bright light conditions but they tend to lack detail in low light or dark conditions.

SOFTWARE

Gionee A1 comes with latest Android Nougat over AMIGO OS. The Amigo OS is quite similar to iOS in terms of icons, options and user interface. This UI lags particularly while using camera. It is not so fast. But still you have smooth performance with no lag.

Gionee A1 is expected to arrive in India (exclusive) at a price nearly 20, 000 INR.
