Safety Tips For Online Shopping

Before you purchase anything from an online store, do you
know is that store/website safe or
reliable? How far is the trustworthiness of the website?

So here are some tips before you step your foot to buy goods through an online store.

  • Check the website address whether it has secure protocol "https". Websites with "https" are secure (not all) than websites having only "http". In https "s" stands for secure.
  • Using virtual keyboard is quite secure. Use virtual keyboard for entering your details.
  • Don't fall for discount offers if you don't know about the website/store.
  • Don't use public Internet centers or even your office computers for online shopping.
  • Don't give in the details of you or your family members to the advertisements which say free gifts. Hackers may gain access to your password if you use your or your family member's name in your passwords.
  • Change your password regularly. Use combination of letters, alphabets (upper and lower case),  symbols and special characters.
  • Check the payment gateway portal of the store. Check whether they are verified or not.
  • Rely only on trusted websites which are popular or you know about them. (Ebay, flipkart).
  •  Have good antivirus which has secure browsing feature. Enable secure browsing or anti-phishing feature on your security suite before online shopping.
  • If you are using your mobile for online shopping have good secure utility app that warns you about bad websites.
  • Never disclose your details even to online customer support of that particular E-Commerce store. (They generally never ask)
So, these are some basic steps in protecting your valuable money from phishers or hackers. Be cautious, secure and stay safe.
