HTC One E9 Plus: Hands On

HTC One E9 plus is the brand new successor to HTC One E8 which was released last year. It is the new upgrade when compared to HTC One E8 and has many features which will outgrow it's predecessors.  HTC One E9 Plus is released along with HTC One M9 plus which is a bit less premium when compared to M9 plus. The price is not yet fixed but it will be available in market soon in this month.

Design:
HTC One E9 plus comes with two variants of built quality. It is made of matte cover design or plastic one depending on the type of colour you choose. This is somewhat made me feel less premium than other metallic design models. It has a 5.5 inches large quad HD display. People with small hands will find it uncomfortable to handle it single handedly. The dual nano sim card slots along with micro sd card slot is lodged on the left. The volume rocker and power buttons are on right side. The back side of the phone lodges a 20 mega pixel camera that will pop out a little out from the phone's surface with single LED flash and noise cancellation mic. The back cover is non removable and hence you cannot swap batteries.

The dual boom speakers are lodged in front which has been the same design feature starting with HTC One. The micro USB/Power charging slot is located at the bottom of the mobile. The front side of the phone has 4 Ultra pixel camera which I felt somewhat peculiar when HTC gave up the ultra pixel gimmick long back.

The mobile is 7.5 mm thick and weighs nearly 150 grams. The display screen is a IPS LCD display with corning gorilla glass 4.

Hardware and Performance:

HTC One E9 plus comes with 2 GHz Mediatek Helio X10 processor. It is an octa core processor accompanied by 3 gigs of RAM. There are 16 gigs and 32 gigs of variants of this mobile and the memory can be expanded up to 2 TB with a micro sd card. The battery capacity is 2900 mAh and is non removable. The company claims that the phone will last for about 615 hours on standby and 21 hours talk time (On 3G 17 hours).

The screen resolution is 1440 X 2560 pixels which makes it about 535 pixels per inch. This makes of one of the most vibrant display available in market. The viewing angles are excellent and direct sunlight viewing is also decent.

The main camera is a 20 mega pixel shooter and it can shoot videos in 4K resolution. The aperture size of the camera is f/2.2 and has BSI sensor. Optical Image Stabilization is missing. But it can take decent pics in well lit conditions. The front camera with aperture f/2.0 can also shoot videos in full HD.

HTC one E9 plus comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box over HTC Sense 7. The performance was pretty fast with no lag issues. The heating problem which occurred in previous Mediatek processors have been rectified in the new Helio X10 processor. The multi tasking was blazing fast and I didn't noticed any lags while switching between apps.

Early Verdict:
HTC One E9 Plus comes with decent specs and features that most of the top end mobiles have. The built quality is not that premium but isn't cheap as well. The mobile comes in various colour and built options. This mobile can give a tough competition. Stay tuned for full depth review.
