Asus Zenfone 2: Review

There is a heavy competition in mid ranged mobiles, especially mobiles providing top notch features at a lower price. In India it has been a tough competition especially between Micromax, HTC, Nokia and Samsung. Asus is thriving really hard to push up the spot in this range by providing some decent mobiles at reasonably lower price. Asus Zenfone 2 is a mobile that has enough power in it to stand up tall in the mobile market. With lot of features and addons, Asus zenfone 2 ads tons of features for customizations and many more.

Design:
Asus Zenfone 2 design is highly influenced by the LG G2/G3 style. This is evident with the body built as well as the placement of volume button at the back side beneath the camera. The body is plastic build with glossy finish. The appearance of the mobile is premium but not in terms of build. The mobile comes in various color options as well. It has curved edges and the back cover is little concave build for a better grip.

The display screen is large 5.5 inches and has capacitive touch buttons at the bottom. The power button is placed at the top side of the phone in the middle. This is very difficult to reach for people with small hands single handedly. People with big hands also find difficulty in stretching the fingers to reach the power button.

The back cover is removable but battery is not. On removing the back cover you will find micro-sd card slot with which you can expand memory and two nano sim card slots. The loud speaker is positioned at the bottom backside. Though this will mask the full sound capacity of the sound when the mobile is placed in normal resting position, it is loud enough to be audible. The bottom end of the phone has the micro usb power charging slot and the top edge has the 3.5 mm ear phone jack.

The mobile isn't thick but not so thin as well. It is 10.9 mm thick and weighs 170 grams. The weight of the phone is a little bulky.

Hardware and Performance:

Asus Zenfone 2 is powered by 64 bit 2.3 GHz Intel Atom Quad core Z3580 which is accompanied by 4 gigs of RAM. The RAM does not impress in terms of numbers, it is a dual channel DDR3 RAM. Perhaps Asus Zenfone 2 is the first phone to lodge a DDR3 RAM. The performance of the mobile is buttery smooth and I had no issues with multitasking or heavy gaming. Thanks to the new Intel Atom processor and the dual channel RAM along with PowerVR G6430 GPU.

But the mobile is available in another variant with 2 gigs of RAM and 1.8 GHz quad core Intel Atom processor at a lower price. The choice depends on the user requirements.

The display is IPS LCD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The 5.5 inches display has a resolution of 1080 X 1920 pixels at the rate of 401 pixels per inch. This is not a bit high resolution available in market and the phone tends to reproduce colder colors than warmer colors. Images look little under detailed. Direct sunlight view is also not so good but it is reliable. It also comes with the sensors like accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, proximity sensor and hall effect sensors.

The camera is the biggest asset of Asus Zenfone 2. The main camera is a 13 mega pixel shooter which has Toshiba sensor. The camera has Largan 5 element lens with f/2.0 aperture. It can shoot videos in full HD. The camera is assisted by dual tone dual LED flash. The camera has tons of customizations with which you can take pictures according to your choice. The low light performance was pretty decent but there is lack of detail. The images also tend to blur  in low light conditions. While in normal light the images are excellent and nearly accurate color reproduction. I have noticed that it tends to over saturate bright colors in auto mode. The front camera is a 5 mega pixel camera and it can also shoot in full HD.

The battery capacity of Asus Zenfone 2 is 3000 mAh and it will last for one day on normal usage. On heavy usage you need to carry your charger since the battery is non removable.

Verdict:
Asusu Zenfone 2 is an excellent mobile within the price range that it is available. It boasts many top end features, especially the Intel Atom processor and dual channel DDR3 RAM. It can be tough competitor in it's price range to many mobiles such as HTC One E9 plusLenovo Vibe Shot and Xiaomi Mi4.

It's price is not yet confirmed in India but it can be between 25,000 to 30,000 INR.
